PointeTango Dance company (Alex and Erin) hope everyone had a safe and happy summer!
Last spring we had a great experience performing at the Grand Theatre and teaching master classes and groups in London, Ontario . We met so many great people with a passion for dance that we have decided to return and present several unique projects planned for this autumn.
We have spent all summer touring Canada and have performed over 35 shows in five different cities.
We will be offering a unique opportunity for the London tango community to learn and participate in an authentic taste of Buenos Aires. This Autumn (September 15-November 25, 2018) we will be presenting our fully immersive Foundation Scalesten week course and our exciting new ten week course covering the Tango Vals Scales.
New Argentine tango intensive this Autumn!
PointeTango Presents two ten week courses:
Foundation Scales and Tango Vals Scales
Foundation Scales:
In these simple and easy to understand scales, students will be introduced to all the essential movements required to understand and improvise Argentine tango. For beginner and advanced dancers, students will learn the proper biomechanics and posture to dance; ochos, paradas, rebotes, and walking movements in all directions. We will focus on the art of initiating a clear lead and how followers can react to specific invitations. Unique to Argentine to tango is the Abrazo or embrace. In these foundation scales we will analyze the posture and energy required to create an elastic, breathing embrace that can be adapted for each couple regardless of height or experience. Theses scales contain all the elements that every dancer should practice and maintain to be able to dance Argentine tango with spontaneity and grace.
Tango Vals Scales:
In these exciting scales dancers will practice and learn to understand the joys and musicality of tango vals. Often written is 3/4 time, tango vals has a dreamy, uplifting feeling that can be danced with many easy to learn musical variations. The tango vals scales consist of a ‘best of’ curriculum of movements taken from the other tango and milonga scales and given new life and feeling with the vals rhythm. Learn to identify the beat and improve your musicality as you discover the swirling joy of improvising tango vals!
Teachers:
Professional Argentine tango dancers, Erin and Alexander believe that dance is a universal language. As experienced teachers with over fifteen years of teaching experience, they believe that anyone can dance if they are given individual attention and taught with clarity in a fun dynamic way.
As part of their organized lessons plans, Erin and Alexander prepare a detailed analysis of each movement and then break down each pattern into a simple element that everyone can understand. With technique comes artistry and from a comprehensive understanding of movement, students can create.
Our classes include thematic courses focusing on music vocabulary and rhythmical patterns. We believe that a complete dancer must develop a strong body awareness and core strength in order to be free to move. To keep classes fun and exciting we use practical games and exercises to achieve instant results for everyone in class. In addition to group classes, we teach private lessons and work on a regular basis as choreographers for dance ensembles and couples planning their first wedding dance.
Erin and Alexander feel honoured to share their love of dance and music and invite you to embark on the never-ending journey of dance.
Having lived in Buenos Aires, Alexander and Erin thrive on sharing their love of Argentine culture with tango group classes and performances. As established artists, they have been invited performers in Milongas, tango festivals, cruise ships, television, film, and theatres all over the world.
